ASSISTANT DESIGN MANAGER – LONDON – PERMANENT POSITION
We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Design Manager to join one of our clients, a main contractor in hospitality and high end residential sectors.
Skills & Experience Required- Design Management and Coordination:
Assist in managing the design process during pre‑construction and construction phases, coordinate to manage design deliverables, support the resolution of technical detailing, and ensure design solutions are buildable and cost effective. - Technical Review and Compliance:
Support the review of drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical submissions to ensure compliance with contract requirements and design intent. - Documentation and Information Management:
Maintain and organise design documentation, update and maintain trackers and registers for RFIs, manage sample submissions and prepare and issue contractor design proposals. - Meetings and Communication:
Attend design and coordination meetings and support effective communication and collaboration across project teams and external stakeholders. - Programme, Commercial and Change Management:
Assist in preparing and maintaining design programmes, trackers, and risk registers, support value engineering initiatives and work with the commercial team to identify opportunities arising from design development that may impact cost and programme. - Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
Maintain a good working knowledge of AI‑supported tools and assist in developing and implementing AI‑enabled processes.
- Previous experience as an Assistant Design Manager, Design Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, or similar role within a main contractor.
- Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of UK Building Regulations, planning processes, and construction methodologies.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, BIM 360, and similar design coordination platforms.
- Experience working on high‑end fit‑out, luxury residential, hospitality, or design‑led construction projects.
- Working knowledge of BIM processes and common design management platforms.
- Working towards, or interested in achieving, MCIOB or a similar professional qualification.
