Aboutthe role
As an Associate Content Designer in the Customer Experience team, you will work alongside colleagues to make sure that residents can easily find accurate, useful information on the Council website ().
To do this, you will:
- Work with another Associate Content Designer to respond to content design requests from across the organisation, received via our website inbox.
- Work with colleagues to make sure content aligns with our playbook guidelines.
- Follow content design guidelines and seek advice from our communities of practice.
- Understand who your stakeholders are and the importance of managing these relationships.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to design user‑centred content.
- Contribute to our team road‑map to deliver a website that works for residents.
We don’t expect you to tick every box on our job description. The most important things we are looking for are:
- Experience and relevant skills in content design.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders, advocating for clear, accessible content based on resident needs.
- Desire to make a difference to people and communities in Hackney.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and diverse team.
The Customer Experience team is made up of service designers, user researchers, product managers, data analysts, and software engineers.
We formed in 2021, and have done some great work since, including:
- Redesigning the rubbish and recycling section on
- Migrating our website from Word Press to Local Gov Drupal.
- Improving digital access to Adult Social Care services.
- Completing a discovery on digital accessibility across the Council’s online services.
Our vision is to help residents get the best possible services from the council. We help people find information, use services, and get support in a way that works for them. To do this we:

- Work with teams from across the Council.

We offer hybrid working. You will be expected to come into our offices in the Hackney Service Centre to work with your team for a minimum of two days a month, however many of us prefer to come in more frequently. Like many organisations, our hybrid arrangements are evolving and you may be expected to work from the office more frequently in future.
