Job Description & How to Apply Below
Overview
- End-to-End Product Design:
Own the design process from early concept exploration through to detailed specs. - User Research & Discovery:
Conduct customer interviews, contextual inquiries, and usability testing to ground design decisions in real user needs. - Design System Stewardship:
Guard and contribute to Blink’s design system, ensuring consistency across mobile and web while evolving components to meet the needs of new product areas. - Squad
Collaboration:
Work as an embedded member of a development squad alongside engineers and product managers, participating in sprint ceremonies, design reviews, and daily decision-making. - Cross-Platform Excellence:
Design mobile-first experiences for frontline workers (low connectivity, shared devices, varied literacy levels) and polished desktop experiences for admins. - Data-Informed Decisions:
Use qualitative and quantitative data to validate designs and iterate — ensuring the work is effective as well as aesthetic.
- 5+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex products. B2B experience is a plus but not required.
- Mobile-first design expertise; comfortable designing for frontline, non-desk workers and understanding constraints and opportunities in mobile patterns.
- Research-driven mindset: capable of planning and running user research, synthesising findings, and advocating for users in product discussions.
- Design tool proficiency: expert in Figma with strong prototyping skills. Sketch and Adobe XD experience also welcome.
- Communication skills: able to articulate design rationale to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders; present work confidently and receive feedback constructively.
- Squad-player mentality: thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced squad environment and views product development as a team sport.
- Nice to Have
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to have productive conversations with engineers.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
- Experience in scaling startup environments balancing speed with quality.
- Systems thinking: ability to design for complex workflows without losing sight of the end-user experience.
