We combine our creative design expertise with capabilities in strategy, research, technology and experience design, and we regularly collaborate with experts and partners from further afield.

Through our work, we're trying to build a more inclusive, sustainable future for communities - and create a more socially and ecologically resilient world.

Job Description

We’re looking for a talented and curious Architectural Assistant (Part I or II) to join our team in London.

This is an opportunity for an emerging designer who wants to work at the front end of architecture - exploring ideas, developing concepts and helping create compelling design responses for competitions and opportunities across different geographies, scales and project types.

Working alongside experienced designers and senior members of our team, you’ll contribute to projects where strong ideas, experimentation and the ability to communicate design beautifully really matter.

About the role

As part of our Global Competition Hub, you’ll contribute to the development of architectural and urban design ideas from early research and concept generation through to presentations and competition submissions.

Your work could involve exploring spatial and material concepts, testing different approaches through 3D modelling, producing drawings and visualisations, researching architecture and urban design, and helping the team communicate a clear design story.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a varied range of projects and locations, while learning from and collaborating with designers across Hassell.

Qualifications About you

We’re looking for someone who is genuinely excited by design and enjoys exploring different ways of developing and communicating ideas.

You’ll bring:
  • A strong interest in architecture and urban design
  • A curious, creative approach to design and problem solving
  • Well-rounded design skills with a strong graphic sensibility
  • The ability to develop and communicate ideas through drawings, images and 3D modelling
  • Confidence using different graphic techniques to create high-quality presentations and visual material
  • An ability to think independently, show initiative and contribute ideas to the design process
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively when priorities and deadlines shift
  • The ability to work collaboratively and deliver high-quality work to tight competition deadlines

Previous experience as an architectural intern, student or assistant within an architecture or design practice would be beneficial, but isn't essential.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with strong digital design and visualisation skills, including:

  • Rhino and visualisation software such as V-Ray or Enscape
  • Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • An interest in and working knowledge of AI tools for image or video generation
  • Revit would be beneficial, but isn't essential
  • Experience with parametric design tools such as Grasshopper or Dynamo would also be beneficial

Physical model-making and experience working with 3D printing would be an advantage.

Qualifications

You’ll have completed, or be completing, an appropriate qualification in Architecture, Urban Design or a related discipline.

You’ll also need to have the right to work in the UK.
