Context

SYSTRA is immediately hiring for a Senior Architect, based in London. Following the successful award of landmark international projects, this is an exciting time to join SYSTRA’s Buildings Team as we continue to develop and raise our profile in the UK & Ireland and across our global business regions. With a focus on delivering in the Transport and Infrastructure sectors—including passenger stations, rail depots, and energy-from-waste projects—the Architectural team is an integral discipline in this world‑leading multidisciplinary transport design consultancy.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the production of designs, drawings, schedules and calculations for design projects and managing less experienced colleagues in delivery. Take responsibility for allocated tasks and coordinate supporting staff as required.
  • Direct and manage in‑house architectural technicians, other design disciplines and architectural partners to meet both client and business requirements.
  • Liaise with both architecture and wider multi‑discipline colleagues to produce organised collaborative built‑environment design solutions.
  • Manage design input from architectural partners and sub‑contractors/consultants.
  • Responsible for taking projects from conception to completion, covering preparation of feasibility studies, development of outline designs, detailed design and site support.
  • Assist in managing resources to achieve the agreed targets regarding the effective delivery of projects to current engineering and safety standards, within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Provide technical assistance to site‑based personnel.
  • Lead and be proactive in project meetings.
  • Advise contractors and consultants on projects.
  • Responsible for coordinating multi‑disciplinary design solutions during Technical Design, Construction and Handover stages of a project (Work Stages 4–8).
  • Review tender opportunities with a view to bidding, preparation of deliverables, cost estimates, programme and multi‑disciplinary collaboration requirements.
  • Direct and manage in‑house architectural staff, other design disciplines and sub‑consultants to meet both client and business requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
  • ARB & RIBA registered Architect
  • Experienced or accredited user in Revit, Microstation or AECOsim, fully conversant in CAD modelling to compliant standards and adopting company/sector‑specific protocols.
  • Experience in Rail Infrastructure Design or Middle Eastern Infrastructure Design would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign to produce quality graphical presentations.
  • Excellent report and case study writing skills.
  • Expected to have general skills in the Microsoft Office suite of software packages.
  • Experience of using common data environments for Design Consultant/Contractor/Client file sharing.
  • CAD software used includes Bentley Microstation, AECOsim and Autodesk Revit.
  • Robust knowledge of design and construction principles and standards.
  • Motivated team player who works well under pressure and engages with colleagues.
  • Self‑confident, but willing to continue learning with mentorship and critique.
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, inclusive attitude and expected to integrate with colleagues.
  • Well organised, with effective time management, able to work quickly and meet client expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—with professional delivery.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, demonstrating working across teams within the company to ensure delivery of projects.
  • Proactive solution‑orientated approach.
  • Experience of working to standards required by organisations such as Network Rail, Crossrail, HS2 and London Underground.
