Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology – FTC 9 month contract. UCLH Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes is pleased to announce a fixed term 9 month vacancy for a clinician in Diabetes. The trust is seeking an innovator who will lead service development in Diabetes and promote new initiatives in the specialty. Clinical research is an important part of the departmental portfolio and research activity will be supported within the NHS timetable.

Outpatient duties will include specialist clinics for Endocrine Late Effects of Cancer including patients undergoing proton beam therapy (together with the Late effects team based in Mac Millan Cancer Centre), Teenager and Young Adult Endocrinology, Pituitary, as well as general endocrinology. The post holder is expected to attend pituitary and adrenal MDTs. Additional roles include Advice and Guidance, and contribution to teaching commitments.

• Eligible for full UK GMC Registration – NB:
  Non‑UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of interview.
• On GMC Specialist List in Diabetes and Endocrinology or within six months of attaining CCT. NB:
  Non‑UK trained doctors must be on the Specialist Register in Diabetes and Endocrinology by date of interview.
• Higher medical degree

• Broad experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Medicine
• Experience in tertiary endocrinology at consultant level

• Confidence in clinical decision making at consultant level.
• Special interest in risk factor assessments in Diabetes

• Evidence of audits in endocrinology and general medicine. Confidence in communication and presentations using common IT resources.
• Interest in IT resources in clinical management.
• Evidence of leadership and development of clinical services.

• Confident understanding of research ethics.
• Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training.
• Research interest and previous research experience.

• Communication; ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate. Accountability; ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority. Interpersonal skills; ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work co-operatively with others.
• Demonstration of skills as a team member within the specialty.
