NHNN Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship (Movement disorders)

Applicants are invited for the Advanced clinic fellow in movement disorders (SPR Level) working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square. This position is available from February 2026 for 6 months and is suitable for candidates who have completed CCT or who are wishing to do an OOPT, subject to appropriate approvals/permissions from their TPD.

Main duties of the job

The holder of this post will work in the Movement disorders firm. The post holder will have the same educational opportunities and clinical and educational supervision arrangements as the other neurology/stroke Senior Registrar posts with NTNs.

Teaching
:
There are daily opportunities to attend teaching including grand rounds, clinico‑pathologic cases, bedside teaching and consultant‑led tutorials, often by international experts. One teaching session is protected: a weekly teaching session tied to the curriculum and delivered by consultants.

Supervision
:
All NHNN trainees will have a named educational supervisor and an electronic portfolio on which to log progress.

  • Provide patient care for a range of movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, progressive supra nuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, corticobasal degeneration, dystonia, tremor, tics and Tourette’s, functional movement disorders, and rare conditions.
  • Participate in clinics, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary services, including ataxia, Huntington’s disease, neuro‑genetics, Wilson’s disease, neurometabolic disorders and neuropsychiatry.
  • Attend regular outpatient clinics and evaluate patients, reviewing diagnosis, revising management decisions, and writing clinic summary letters under consultant supervision.
  • Take part in weekly ward rounds and inpatient management of complex cases.
  • Provide approximately 20 patient consultations per week, including new and follow‑up cases.
Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Completion of CMT training or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Experience in Neurology and/or Stroke and keen interest in pursuing a career in Neurology/Stroke
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, Good Clinical Practice and GDPR
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Understanding of research methodology
Experience
  • Management of medical or neurology inpatients
  • Clinical audit experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced IT proficiency (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email)
  • Completion of projects, audit, quality improvement and service development related to Neurology
Communication
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication with colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
Personal and People Development
  • Takes responsibility for own personal development plan
