Locum Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Immunology / Infectious Diseases to commence as soon as possible until 30 August 2026.
The post is based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. The post has become available due to staff sabbatical and fixed term research funding. There may be the possibility of extending this locum post for an additional 12 months.
Previous experience in paediatric infectious diseases and immunology is essential.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant will join a team of seven consultants (four WTE), two paediatic infectious diseases clinical fellows, a research/QI fellow and three clinical nurse specialists) working closely with laboratory research colleagues in delivering a highly responsive ward-based infection consult and clinical advice service.
The clinical PIID team deliver PIID inpatient consults, paediatric OPAT (outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy), infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, acute/complex infection, HIV, TB, congenital infection and primary/secondary immunodeficiency clinics.
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London's best known teaching hospitals and employs over 12,500 staff and over 1 million patient contacts a year.
ELCH admits over 25,000 patients per year of which over 8,000 are non-elective admissions; over the past year alone both elective and non-elective admitted activity have increased by an average of 8%. This growth is anticipated to continue into the coming years. In addition to this over 125,000 outpatients attend ELCH each year.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice, or be at least eligible for registration (overseas candidates).
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Person Specification Professional Qualifications- Full GMC registration
- On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT in paediatric immunology and infectious diseases or equivalent at time of scheduled interview
- Higher degree relevant to post
- Ability to manage all the typical cases seen in a tertiary children's hospital Immunology and Infectious Disease service
- Ability to manage complex social and child protection cases
- Clinical team leadership skills
- Demonstrable interest in integrating research with clinical medicine
- Understanding and knowledge of research and publications, and research ethics.
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
