The Department of Orthopaedics is seeking a (10 PA) consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward‑thinking team to support growth in demand for shoulder and elbow surgery in our department.

They will be an integral part of the orthopaedic and trauma department delivering multidisciplinary care to both the local South East London population and our tertiary referral network patients. The Orthopaedic Department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team, and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.

The Department offers a wide range of service to patients. The post holder will undertake outpatient and inpatient sessions on a flexible basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first‑class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

To provide an orthopaedic trauma service in conjunction with colleagues, the appointee should have a special interest in shoulder and elbow trauma.

The appointee will have a specialist expertise in elective Shoulder and elbow surgery both arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery and arthroplasty of both the shoulder and elbow.

To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.

To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.

The Trust includes St Thomas’ Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital (GSTT) and both adult and children’s community services in Lambeth and Southwark.

We provide a full range of hospital services for our local communities in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, as well as specialist services for patients from further afield, including cancer, cardiothoracic, women’s and children’s services, kidney care and orthopaedics. This post is for a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a sub‑special interest in shoulder and elbow to support growth in demand for surgery in our department. They will be an integral part of the orthopaedic and trauma department delivering multidisciplinary care to both the local South East London population and our tertiary referral network patients.

The post holder would be joining the shoulder and elbow service consisting of 3 consultants and a trauma service of 10 consultants.

On the St Thomas site, the consultant would work with the Orthopaedic Trauma Team to deliver acute fracture care both virtually, face to face and trauma operating. On the Guy’s site, the consultant will deliver elective arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty, arthroscopic repairs, stabilisation and fracture fixations. You will also be working alongside colleagues from hospitals across South London in developing the regional hubs.

• Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise.
• On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT.
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent.

• Comprehensive clinical experience in orthopaedics and trauma.
• Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
• Experience of working in complex shoulder and elbow trauma.
• Experience of primary and revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty on fellowship.
