The Imperial Stroke Centre is a regional tertiary comprehensive hyper-acute stroke service, which is one of the leading and largest stroke services in the UK, consisting of a 23-bedded Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and a 22-bedded Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) for early stroke rehabilitation.
This post is a highly valuable and clinically enriching post at Charing Cross Hospital. The doctor will have the opportunity to rotate into different aspects of the stroke service under supervision and gain experience in not only stroke medicine but also general medicine. There will be an opportunity to work with the general medical team out of hours, led by a medical consultant and registrar.
The junior clinical fellow joins a cohort of 6 Sprs, 9 other SHOs, 1 F1 and consultants.
The doctor will have the opportunity to rotate into different aspects of the stroke service under supervision and gain experience in not only stroke medicine but also general medicine. There will be an opportunity to work with the general medical team out of hours, led by a medical consultant and registrar.
Alongside supporting different areas of the stroke service, there is also strong Consultant support to aid career progression with many learning opportunities available at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. These include dedicated teaching, quality improvement projects and audits as well as participate in active research trials.
Regular teaching at the Charing Cross site includes Grand round, medical Grand round, and stroke specialty interdepartmental teaching at least twice a week. The post holder will be allocated a clinical supervisor, who will support them with their professional progression as well as yearly appraisals and revalidation.
There is also the opportunity to be involved with research activities, as Imperial College hosts the Northwest London Clinical Research Network. The Hyperacute Stroke Research Centre at Imperial Stroke Centre facilitates the delivery of many ongoing stroke trials including emergency intervention trials, stroke rehabilitation trials, and epidemiological studies.
There are also weekly departmental teachings including stroke radiology, vascular surgery, general medicine, and learnings from M&M meetings.

Job responsibilitiesThe Junior Clinical Fellow will support the Imperial Stroke Centre. This Centre offers all current hyperacute stroke interventions in close collaboration with Imperial Interventional Neuroradiology and Neurosurgery departments. Our IV thrombolysis rate is 20-25% and 200-250 mechanical thrombectomy procedures are performed by the Interventional Neuroradiologists per year. Thrombectomy is available 24/7 and we provide a service for several other regional HASUs.
Protocols for extended time windows for mechanical thrombectomy (up to 24 hours) using advanced perfusion imaging protocols are in place.

Person Specification Qualifications- GMC Registration with a license to practice or confirmed eligibility for entry
- ALS Certificate
- Membership exam, whole or part
- Minimum 18 months' experience working in the NHS
- Min 6 months recent experience in GIM
- Clinical experience in stroke medicine.
