Job overview

The Anaesthetic Department sits under the Surgery and Inpatients Directorate. The department is supported by Head of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care, Deputy Medical Director, Divisional Nurse Director for Clinical Services, and General Manager as well as Clinical Leads of Service.

The post holder will have direct access to the administrative support team based within the Anaesthetic department. In addition, the Admissions and Pre‑assessment Unit (APU) team provide full administrative and secretarial support for clinical work performed within this unit. The department also supports study leave and professional leave in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists recommendations. The department provides support for audit, research and service development.

Main

duties of the job
  • The appointee will be expected to work flexibly to support the department in delivering exceptional care to adult patients undergoing a wide range of procedures at both the Chelsea and Sutton sites (including the Oak Cancer Centre), in line with established guidelines and policies. This may include job planned weekend operating lists in the future.
  • This post includes an on‑call commitment of 1:18 and may change in terms of frequency due to service requirements.
  • Attendance at departmental education and governance meetings is expected, as is a commitment to education and training of junior staff.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Full registration (and with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • CCT (or equivalent) in Anaesthesia (or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview)
  • Experience in a tertiary centre with an oncological workload for minimum 6 months within Stage 3 of anaesthesia training
  • ALS current certification
  • APLS/EPLS current certification
Experience & Skills
  • Skilled in the provision of high quality, evidence‑based perioperative care for day surgery and major surgery
  • Skilled in managing major haemorrhage
  • Specialist interest areas (SIA) or equivalent in perioperative medicine and, or major general surgery
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues and work well as part of a multi‑disciplinary team across management and clinical disciplines, grades and abilities
  • The ability to work constructively in a team of different disciplines
