Consultant in Cellular Pathology

Position:
Consultant in Cellular Pathology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at Royal Preston Hospital.

This is a full‑time, permanent post. Working week Monday‑Friday 9 am to 5 pm with no on‑call expectation.

The successful applicant will join a team of consultants and provide a comprehensive histopathology service, excluding neuropathology cases.

You will be required to develop specialist interests to complement the existing cancer services.

• Recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, BMSs and secretarial staff in the histopathology department.
• Arrange rostering of staff, allocation of duties, and instruction in organisational matters.
• Coordinate with staff in other professional disciplines and health‑care workers outside the hospital.
• Attend board meetings and other committees where pathology issues are discussed, participating in resource management.
• Continuing management responsibility (by agreement with other consultants) for the service in his/her charge, including administrative duties and department functioning, with possible delegation to senior staff.

We are collaborating with three other trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria (Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust) for the proposed central laboratory Hub. Modern education centres are available at Royal Preston, Chorley, and South Ribble Hospital sites, offering excellent library and study facilities, PC/Internet support, and high‑tech simulation facilities.

All new consultants are encouraged to be research active and receive full support. They are enrolled in the award‑winning Consultant Leadership Programme, which includes mentorship, annual appraisal with a trained appraiser, and support for the revalidation process.
