This post is suitable for an O&G trainee who has successfully completed ST4 in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or equivalent competencies) or above, with a minimum of two years experience of working in the NHS. Candidates should have attained MRCOG part 2 or above. Training will be provided in early pregnancy & Gynaecology ultrasound beyond the competencies required for the relevant RCOG special interest training modules in complex early pregnancy and non-elective gynaecology, the management of subfertility and the management of complex non-malignant disease.
Although these appointments are not accredited for training, the appointees will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programmes within the each department and the hospital. Appointees will have a named educational supervisor. The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in obstetrics & gynaecology.
There are 8 Gynaecology beds, a day surgery unit and an ambulatory outpatient procedure suite. The elective inpatient gynaecology theatre is at Princess Royal Hospital, Kent. The Gynaecology service has access to 7 inpatient theatre lists and 5 day-case lists per week. As well as providing general gynaecology, the Gynaecology Service also has special interests in endometriosis, colposcopy, urogynaecology, assisted conception and specialist menopause and endocrine services.
The department delivers a service principally to local women and maintains excellent links with local G.Ps.
This unit sees over 10,000 patients per year. We run a daily emergency early pregnancy and acute gynaecology assessment clinic. The EPU receives tertiary referrals for complex early pregnancy problems from local hospitals and we are a regional training unit. There is a dedicated clinic for the management of women with recurrent first trimester miscarriages and an outpatient SMM service. It also runs the rapid access diagnostic service for suspected endometrial and ovarian cancers and the assessment of women with general benign Gynaecological complaints.
