Consultant in Breast Surgery (10PA Post) – Whipps Cross Hospital
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a full‑time, substantive Breast Consultant. Candidates should hold CCT or equivalent certification, or be due to obtain CCT within the next six months. The role requires an enthusiastic clinician with breast oncoplastic training to join our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and support staff in the Breast Department.
Main dutiesIn return, this post offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and develop new models of care and services that support all patients attending the hospital and the local community. We are developing a dedicated breast cancer centre of excellence at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London, bringing all services, including vital reconstructive surgery, together in a permanent NHS home.
This will improve patient care and free up capacity for other patients at The Royal London, Newham and Whipps Cross hospitals, allowing the role to play a part in shaping the future services and department.

Job DescriptionThe role involves delivering breast surgery, oncoplastic and reconstructive procedures, cancer management, teaching and clinical supervision, and contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings. The primary base will be Whipps Cross Hospital, with a requirement to attend other hospitals within the Trust where appropriate for work or training.
Person SpecificationQualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practice and on the Specialist Register for General / Plastic Surgery (or within 6 months of application)
- CCT or equivalent certification, CCT to be awarded within 6 months of date of interview
Desirable
- Higher medical or Surgical degree
Experience
- Training and experience in Breast Surgery
- Oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery experience essential
- Experience in cancer management
- Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
- Research undertaken in a relevant field
- Management experience including appropriate training course
Knowledge
- Specialist experience and training in Breast Surgery
Desirable
- Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
Skills
- Evidence of leadership
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues at different locations
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Evidence of experience in teaching and clinical/educational supervision
Other
- Good knowledge of, and the ability to use, spoken and written English
