Job Summary

Trust Doctor (equivalence to ST3+) in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care. Join our middle grade tier at Barts Heart Centre (BHC) – the UK's premier cardiac centre. BHC was formed by merging cardiothoracic services from the London Chest Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Heart Hospital, creating the largest cardiothoracic centre in the UK. The new hospital houses 10 operating theatres, 10 catheter labs, over 250 cardiac, vascular and thoracic beds, and 58 critical care beds including 2 ICUs, 1 HDU and a dedicated General ICU.

• Provide perioperative care for cardiothoracic surgical and cardiology patients in operating theatres, catheter labs and critical care units.
• Participate in multimodal teaching, training and audit activities:
  Audit Day, Morbidity and Mortality Meetings, Weekly teaching and journal club programmes, consultant‑led echo teaching.
• Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings with surgeons and cardiologists.
• Collaborate with the Cardiac London Anaesthesia Partnership (CAP) for advanced teaching in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.
• Serve as a resident on one of two CICUs as part of a full shift rota, ensuring compliance with EWTD and UK junior doctor contract guidelines.

• Current GMC registration.
• Minimum of Primary FRCA or equivalent.
• Extensive basic training in anaesthesia (core anaesthetic training equivalent in the UK) and ideally specialist registrar level experience.
• Desire to complete CESR in anaesthesia or to gain experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.

• Disclosure and Barring Service check (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 – Exceptions Order).
• Certificate of Sponsorship available for eligible applicants.
• Current UK professional registration required.
