About the Post
Junior clinical fellows are required to work at FY2/ST1-2 level at the Royal Free Hospital, London, in the Hampstead site.
The post allows doctors to rotate through the following specialties:
- Acute medicine
- Elderly care medicine
- Emergency medicine
The successful applicant will gain experience across a wide variety of common and rarer medical conditions and will have access to the full range of in‑house educational opportunities afforded to other trainees. The consultant body is drawn from a variety of core medical specialities.
Applicants will be able to participate in the department’s teaching, audit and educational activities, as well as in specific speciality exposure if desired. They will also take part in teaching and training of medical students and elective students during their placements. A Clinical Teaching Fellow coordinates and enables delivery of educational and training needs for junior doctors in the department.
Candidates will have opportunities to participate in audit and quality improvement under the guidance of a supervisor.
There is a weekly teaching programme and weekly simulation (SIM) training, along with shop‑floor teaching opportunities led by senior medical staff. Junior clinical fellows are expected to attend these similar to FY2 and CT1 trainees.
Support & SupervisionConsultant cover is provided to support juniors in resuscitation, injuries, trauma and acute emergencies from 8 am to 11 am, in conjunction with a senior tier of registrar‑grade doctors to supervise and mentor CT1 equivalent doctors.
Post holders will have equal standing to ED trainees within the Department and will be assigned an Educational Supervisor. Study and other leave entitlement is as found in Trust policies.
