Junior Clinical Fellow in Hepatology & ICU

Junior Clinical Fellow in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation & Intensive Care Medicine, fixed term 1 year beginning 6th August 2026

Applications are invited for junior clinical fellow posts working within the Royal Free Hospital Liver unit and Intensive Care Unit. The Royal Free provides secondary and tertiary Hepatology services, including liver transplantation, management of complex portal hypertension and management of complex pancreatic and biliary diseases.

Main

duties of the job

The main responsibilities of these posts relate to inpatients and day patients. The inpatient case mix includes post-liver transplant patients, GI bleeding, complex portal hypertension, decompensated cirrhosis and acute liver failure. Patients attend the day case unit for day case liver transplant assessment or procedures such as abdominal paracentesis or liver biopsy.

The post includes a commitment to the out of hours rota for hepatology, liver transplant and HPB surgery inpatients

Intensive Care Unit (6 months):

During the 6 month ICU rotation the post holder will be part of the ICU team which covers 46 Intensive Care beds (mixed level 2 and level
3). All medical and surgical specialties, with exception of neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery and ECMO are covered.

Education & professional Qualifications
  • Possession of MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register
  • Working towards a postgraduate qualification
Experience
  • Successful completion of FY2 year or equivalent
  • Experience in acute medical or surgical specialty
