Clinical Fellow in Urology – Stones/Endourology

The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated Clinical Fellow for a fixed term of 12 months from October 2025. The successful candidate will join the largest and most prestigious Urological Department in the UK, which sees referrals from across the UK and abroad and serves as a centre for excellence and research.

The successful candidate will work in the Stones and Endourology team and will gain experience in pioneering new treatments while playing a key role in ensuring excellent patient care.

  • Mr Simon Choong – Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Giorgio Mazzon – Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Daron Smith – Consultant Urologist

The unit consists of five consultants, three clinical fellows and three clinical nurse specialists.

The post holder will provide a safe and effective service under the supervision of the Consultant Urologist. Responsibilities include undertaking theatre lists, clinics, inpatient management, on‑call duties and participation in audits, research projects and teaching.

Main duties of the job
  • Primary charge of all patients admitted to the service and the day‑to‑day care of the patients.
  • Attend ward rounds with the Consultants and visit each of the Firm's patients on a daily basis, assisting the ward‑duty Trust Doctor.
  • Participate in regular clinics to see new patients, recently discharged patients, and ongoing follow‑up patients.
  • Observe, assist and operate in theatre as directed by the consultant.
  • Prescribe drugs and diets for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Liaise closely with multidisciplinary teams for trauma admissions and attend the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • Take part in, and present, audit and research projects.
  • Teach other staff, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Person Specification Experience
  • Completion of core surgical training
  • Substantive experience as a Specialist Registrar in Urology
  • Involvement in clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives
  • Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication
  • Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
Skills and Abilities
  • Management of urological emergencies
Communication
  • Ability to act as a consistent reference point in a team and to take a leadership role where needed
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, delegate responsibilities as appropriate and supervise staff
Personal and People Development
  • Participates in teaching and instruction to Junior staff
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
