Consultant Physician Medicine for the Elderly
We are very pleased to offer the substantive appointment of a Consultant Physician, with a special interest in Medicine for the Elderly, and sub-speciality Surgical Liaison, at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
This position will be based at Barnet General Hospital. If appointed you will join a committed team of consultants, in our well-developed and respected service. We also pride ourselves on our supportive and forward-thinking culture.
Main duties of the jobIn this post, there will be a strong focus on Perioperative care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS).
The appointee will alternate between running a POPS service and providing front door services in the Adult Assessment Unit (AAU).
When doing POPS, the postholder will have their own team of resident doctors and will reach into the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), as well as the surgical wards.
When in AAU, the appointee will become part of a team involved in running the bed base in the unit and in providing a hot clinic. They will also do in-reach into the emergency department (ED) and play a role in running the virtual ward service.
The appointee will also be on the acute integrated medical on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Full GMC registration
- MRCP or equivalent
- CCT (in GIM and Ger) or Interview within 6 months of CCT date
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- Broad experience in General Internal and Geriatric Medicine.
- Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Experience in integrated care service development and delivery
- Strong teaching skills and experience
- Understanding of quality improvement, clinical governance and audit procedures
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Motivated, flexible and enthusiastic
- Reconfiguration of services or clinical innovation

£109,725 to £145,478 a year
Per annum plus London weighting
