South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Primary Mental Health Care team in Neighbourhood 1 within the London Borough of Lewisham.

The closing date is 01 March 2026.

The consultant will provide psychiatry consultant leadership to the Primary Care Mental Health Team and support the Clinical Service Lead. This includes:

• Working closely with GPs and attending regular meetings with local practices to improve the primary/secondary care interface.
• Providing clinical cover for other Lewisham borough consultants and vice versa.
• Leading further service development and incorporating quality improvement methodology to evaluate changes.

• Provide enthusiastic, flexible joint clinical leadership and consultant input into the team.
• Advise and liaise closely with GPs and other stakeholders, assess complex presentations, and create appropriate management plans.
• Offer expert risk assessment and management for newly referred patients.
• Ensure excellence in the delivery of evidence‑based treatments.

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Higher qualification in medical education, clinical research or management.
• Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent (as per guidelines).
• Experience in liaison psychiatry, home treatment or addictions (preferred).
• Fully registered with the GMC and license to practise at appointment.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or within six months.
• In good standing with GMC (no serious warnings or conditions).
• Approved clinician status under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.

• Excellent knowledge of specialty and skilled in bio‑psycho‑social assessment.
• Strong oral and written communication in English.
• Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, making evidence‑based decisions.
• Familiarity with MHA and MCA duties.
• Broad specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to NHS roles.

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
• Lead and work collaboratively in teams, promoting shared leadership and improvements.
• Engage in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation.
• Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
• Demonstrate evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement.
