Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Colorectal Surgery

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Great Ormond Street for Children NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated trainee in paediatric surgery to take up a 2-year post, commencing in October 2026. The fellow will spend one year at GOSH and one year at Chelsea and Westminster throughout the two‑year fellowship.

These posts would be ideally suited to trainees who are post‑CCT or a non‑UK training fellow with a particular interest in developing expertise in Paediatric colorectal surgery. There is Royal College Approval for this two‑year programme.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be able to gain operative experience in the following areas:

  • Reconstructive procedures for male and female ano‑rectal malformation
  • Reconstructive procedures for females with cloacal malformation
  • Reconstructive procedures for children with Hirschsprung's Disease
  • Therapeutic and reconstructive procedures for children with inflammatory bowel disease
  • Diagnostic, therapeutic and reconstructive procedures for children with paediatric intestinal pseudo‑obstruction and intestinal dysmotility.

Specialist MDT clinics are held regularly for children with cloacal malformation, children with inflammatory bowel disease and children with intestinal dysmotility and chronic intestinal pseudo‑obstruction. During the year the post holder will also be expected to undertake:

  • A full quality improvement project
  • Update and revision of information sheets for children with Paediatric colorectal disease treated at GOSH
  • Work with and liaise with the specialist nursing team to develop protocols of care for children with colorectal disease
  • Work with and liaise with the specialist nursing team to support and manage the population of children under care of the department of colorectal surgery at GOSH
  • A clinical research project that we would expect to be presented at international conference and lead to a 1st author publications.
