Senior Clinical Fellow in Radiology

We are offering 5 x 12 month Clinical Fellowship in Cross-Sectional Imaging at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is suitable for a senior trainee who has completed their FRCR examination, and is open to those who have completed their specialty training (post CCT) but wishes to develop a subspecialty interest further, or has 7 complete postgraduate years, or equivalent.

This post combines acute as well as subspecialty imaging. We are able to offer dedicated training in the following subspecialties, depending on interests:

  • MSK imaging
  • Cardiothoracic imaging
  • Head and Neck imaging
  • Neuro imaging
  • Urogynaecology
Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to carry out the following: 4–5 general sessions which will include acute spine reporting, acute CT, priority oncology reporting and US. Four sessions will be allocated to subspecialty reporting, which will be supervised and provide further training opportunities. One session will be allocated to supporting professional activities such as administrative duties and audit.

About us

The Department of Radiology sits within the directorate of Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP). Joint Clinical Directors lead the directorate supported by a General Manager and Head of Nursing. The Department of Radiology management team includes a Clinical Lead Radiologist and a Head of Radiology Services.

The Directorate supports the development of the AHSC through its participation in the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group.

The Radiology Department delivers imaging in multiple locations across three main sites:
St Thomas' Hospital, Guy's Hospital and the Evelina Children's Hospital. There is a full RIS and PACS system (Sectra) linking all the Departments, allowing image interpretation from any site. The Departments are linked with video‑conferencing capability and PACS links to other hospitals in the region to allow combined review of patients.

The Department has an asset base of in excess of £25 million with state‑of‑the‑art image acquisition capability and interventional facilities. The Department performs in excess of 500,000 examinations per annum, with CT accounting for approximately 88,000 examinations per annum.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will be expected to undertake a supervisory role of junior trainees and will be encouraged to take part in teaching and other educational activities. There will also be an opportunity to undertake subspecialty research, if the postholder wishes.

There is an on‑call commitment of 1:4 Saturday 9 am–5 pm, Sunday 9 am–5 pm and one evening session per week to help support acute work within the Trust. Working hours will be adjusted accordingly to facilitate this.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Full GMC Registration and hold a licence to practise
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • 7 complete postgraduate years or post‑CCT or equivalent
Clinical Experience
  • Prior experience in general radiology, including acute inpatient and emergency work
  • Experience of independent spine MRI reporting
  • Experience of outpatient oncology CT reporting
Knowledge and Skills
  • Able to prioritise clinical needs by applying sound medical knowledge
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of presentations at national and/or international meetings
  • Clinical audit
Teaching
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training
Management
  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
Other
  • Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the GMC
  • Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management
  • Evidence of leadership skills
