Overview
A Junior Clinical Fellow is sought to work as part of the specialist Upper GI Surgery team at Imperial College NHS Trust starting ASAP. The successful candidate will be an SHO or equivalent with experience in Upper GI Surgery and looking to further develop their knowledge and skills in this area. The role is based at Hammersmith Hospital, a regional cancer centre for North West London.

The Upper GI Surgical Service moved to the Hammersmith site in March 2019. It is the regional Upper GI Cancer Unit for North‑west London and parts of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, offering a range of routine and highly specialised surgical procedures, including:
- Specialist oesophago-gastric cancer (open and minimally invasive)
- Specialist laparoscopic services for benign upper gastrointestinal surgery, including reflux disease, achalesia and other motility disorders
- Redo and reconstructive gastric surgery for benign disease
There are strong links with a vibrant gastro‑intestinal physician unit which is the network centre for the management of early cancers, with excellent diagnostic and radiological input in a multi‑professional setting.
Opportunities for research exist through Imperial College with all the oesophago‑gastric consultants holding academic appointments and having active research groups.
ContractPost will be for 4 months to cover maternity leave within the service.
ResponsibilitiesClinical duties include participating in patients’ care and on‑call duties; attending out‑patients, theatre sessions covering UGI as well as occasionally HPB patients on ward. The post holder will be required to cover activities of the UGI surgical team (ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions), giving occasionally allocated time to assist with UGI patients on ward, along with general surgical on calls within the Hammersmith Hospital which also involves covering UGI and endocrine patients out of hours.
Monthly committee meetings, monthly operational meetings, ad hoc meetings, morning assembly every day, monthly MDTMs, departmental grand round.
On‑call frequency, 1 in 7 non‑resident (after 8pm).
