Bank Specialist Wound Care Podiatrist Band 7 | Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK, providing care to more than 2 million people each year across our hospital sites at Barnet, Chase Farm, and the Royal Free Hospital.

We are currently recruiting experienced and highly motivated Bank Band 7 Specialist Wound Care Podiatrist to join our Podiatry Service. These bank opportunities are ideal for clinicians looking for flexible working arrangements while supporting the service by providing cover for short-term staffing requirements, including annual leave, sickness, and other temporary vacancies.

  • To work as a member of an acute foot multidisciplinary team based at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To provide a highly specialised wound care assessment within the outpatients, inpatients and emergency care settings. Patients will include those with long term conditions, such as diabetes and renal disease. Patients may also be very complex with multiple co-morbidities.
  • To formulate a clinical diagnosis and treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To use clinical judgement and discretion in the advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex pathologies, which puts them at increased risk of amputation, morbidity and mortality.
  • To provide advanced wound care techniques in their practice, including casting, negative pressure wound therapy and larval therapy.
  • To work towards achieving competencies in advanced, specialised care, such as independent prescribing.
  • To mentor students, and supervise, teach and appraise junior podiatrists.
  • To share the responsibility for operational management of the podiatry department, participate in service development, and participate in evidence-based projects.

    As a Bank Specialist Wound Care Podiatrist, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based assessment and management of complex foot wounds, including those associated with diabetes, vascular disease, and infection. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across vascular, diabetes, infectious diseases, and other specialist services to ensure integrated patient care and positive clinical outcomes.

    CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the practitioner’s professional activities.
  • To carry out assessment within outpatients, inpatients and emergency care settings as an autonomous practitioner. Patients will include those with a range of complex presentations and co-morbidities.
  • To work with other rotational band 7 podiatrists in ensuring clinical areas are covered accordingly, with priority of complex or higher risk cases.
  • To use clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence-based practice and highly specialised podiatric expertise to determine appropriate care plan utilising specialist treatment skills and options.
  • To be responsible for providing clinical interventions to patients for the management of complex multi-factorial lower limb pathologies.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
  • To maintain accurate, comprehensive professional case notes for all direct and indirect patient contact.
