IFSA Instructor:
Algorithms (London, England)

Join the Institute for Study Abroad to teach ‘Algorithms’ for the IFSA Study program in London over the upcoming Spring semester. This role is a fixed‑term, part‑time contract for a single academic term.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a 45‑contact‑hour course over 17 weeks (3 hours teaching per week), Tuesday and Thursday 13:30‑15:00.
  • Prepare lecture materials, lecture slides, and assessment materials.
  • Conduct assessments, mark assignments, and provide timely feedback.
  • Design and coordinate at least two co‑curricular activities (guest speakers, site visits, or other events) to expose students to new perspectives and help them integrate, apply, and synthesize key learning.
  • Provide one office hour per week for student support.

    Fixed term/contract (initially for Spring term only; renewal subject to demand and performance)
  • Teaching hours begin 14 Jan 2025 – 8 May 2026 (semester dates); the contract renewal may extend to Fall terms.
Qualifications
  • Minimum a master’s degree in a related subject and at least two years into a PhD.
  • Experience of teaching and assessment at university level in a UK and/or US higher education setting.
  • Understanding of teaching principles in a diverse classroom environment.
  • Commitment to and experience with fostering active learning.
  • Familiarity with using Virtual Learning Environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Essential Criteria
  • At least 2 years of work towards a PhD in a relevant subject area.
  • Experience of teaching at university level.
  • Understanding of teaching principles in a diverse classroom environment.
  • Commitment to and experience of fostering active learning.
  • Familiarity with using Virtual Learning Environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Recognised teaching qualification, e.g. Fellowship of Advance HE or similar.
  • Experience delivering teaching to US study abroad students.
  • Familiarity with US assessment and degree program structures.
