Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Newham
Are you someone who can connect with young people who've lost their way - and help them find it again?
If you've worked in sports coaching, the prison service, youth work, or mental health, your skills could make a life-changing difference in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in London.
This PRU provides education and support for students aged 11-16 who have been excluded from mainstream school or are at risk of exclusion. The staff team is passionate, resilient, and committed to giving every young person a second chance - and they're looking for someone like you to join them.
The Role:
Build positive relationships with students who have social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Support pupils in and out of class to help them engage with learning and manage their behaviour.
Act as a role model - calm under pressure, consistent, and compassionate.
Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral leads to support progress and wellbeing.
Who We're Looking For:
You don't need school experience - just the right attitude and transferable skills.
We'd love to hear from you if you've worked as a:
Sports Coach or Youth Worker - skilled at motivating and mentoring young people.
Ex-Forces or Prison Service Professional - experienced in managing challenging behaviour and staying calm under pressure.
Mental Health Nurse or Support Worker - confident supporting individuals with emotional and behavioural needs.
Community or Support Worker - with a passion for helping others reach their potential.
Above all, you'll need empathy, resilience, and a belief that every young person deserves a chance to succeed.
What's on
Offer:
A highly supportive team and leadership who invest in their staff.
Ongoing training and development in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, and SEND.
A role where no two days are the same - and where your impact on students' lives is real and visible.
If you're ready to use your experience to change lives and help students build a brighter future, we want to hear from you
