Teacher of French – September Onwards
A Teacher of French is required to join our academically selective, co‑educational North London day school from September. The ability to teach German or another language would be a significant advantage, but we welcome all applications.
The role is suitable for a teacher from the state or independent sector, or an enthusiastic graduate. Applicants should hold a degree that included French or be a heritage speaker with a relevant degree.
Department OverviewThe French Department teaches all pupils ab initio from Year 7, with studies continuing at least until the end of Year 9. We deliver Pearson Edexcel GCSE and A‑Level courses, and consistently expect teachers to go beyond examination specifications to challenge and inspire pupils – contributing to 72 % 9s at GCSE last year and healthy numbers at A‑Level.
We organise popular visits to France, including a full year‑group trip to Lille in Year 8, exchanges and trips to Rouen, Paris, Montpellier and Corsica. Pupils participate in the Joutes Oratoires debating competition organised by the Institut Français and an annual French play, while a lively French Society meets weekly for presentations and discussions.
Our department runs an extension programme of literature seminars for Sixth Form pupils. Many pupils proceed to study French at leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. The department boasts large digital screens, adaptive digital resources, and CPD funding, fostering a vibrant, scholarly environment and high academic standards.
