Principal Education is recruiting a calm, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Support Officer to support secondary schools across South London. This role is ideal for individuals with strong behaviour management skills who are passionate about supporting pupils to re-engage with learning and make positive choices.
Schools are seeking consistent, authoritative adults who can build trust, set clear boundaries, and support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
The Role
You will work closely with pupils who require additional behavioural support, both in and out of the classroom. Responsibilities may include:
Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour on a 1:1 and small-group basis
Implementing behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Supporting pupils removed from lessons or placed in internal exclusion units
Promoting positive behaviour, routines, and emotional regulation
Working closely with teachers, SEND teams, pastoral staff, and SLT
Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to behaviour plans
Maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
These are full-time, long-term roles (Monday–Friday), providing stability and continuity for pupils who need consistent support.
Essential Requirements
You must be able to demonstrate:
Experience working with challenging behaviour in a school or youth setting
A calm, firm, and consistent approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management strategies
Ability to de-escalate conflict and manage boundaries effectively
Right to work in the UK
A recent Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Based in South London or able to commute reliably
Pay & Benefits
£130 – £160 per day, depending on experience
