Position: JOB-189120 – Personal Care Specialist Teaching Assistant (Learning Support Assistant)

Contract Type: Temporary / Supply
Hours: 08:00 – 16:00

Job Purpose

The Person al Care Specialist Teaching Assistant will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils who require personal care alongside classroom and pastoral support. The role ensures pupils are safe, comfortable, and able to access learning in a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care support, including changing and hoisting
    , in line with care plans and dignity standards.
  • Support pupils in the classroom to engage with learning activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist pupils with mobility, positioning, and physical support throughout the school day.
  • Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and wellbeing at all times.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and manual handling procedures.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Monitor and report on pupils’ wellbeing, progress, and any concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality and treat all pupils with respect and dignity.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school or SEN setting.
  • Training and competence in hoisting and personal care (essential).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Calm, patient, and compassionate approach.
  • Ability to follow care plans and work as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills with staff and pupils.
Additional Information
  • The role is subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS.
  • Flexibility and reliability are essential due to the temporary nature of the role.
