Senior Boarding Houseparent (Live Out)

MPW London is seeking a dedicated, experienced and compassionate Senior Boarding Houseparent to join our vibrant boarding community. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in shaping the pastoral experience of our diverse, international student body and helping to create a true "home from home" environment.

The Role

As Senior Boarding Houseparent, you will take a leading role in safeguarding, pastoral care and the day‑to‑day management of the boarding house. Working closely with the Head of Boarding, Directors of Studies and the wider pastoral team, you will support students' wellbeing, development and academic engagement.

You will also undertake additional senior responsibilities, including supporting safeguarding processes, overseeing trips and activities, contributing to boarding audits and deputising where required.

This is a live‑out role working 44 hours per week on a rota agreed with the Head of Boarding. The post includes one 24‑hour period off per week and one in three weekends off (Friday 5pm‑Sunday 4pm).

Key Responsibilities Student Welfare & Pastoral Care
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all boarders
  • Provide high‑quality pastoral support in collaboration with academic and pastoral colleagues
  • Support students' health, wellbeing and personal development
  • Contribute to boarding induction and student voice initiatives
  • Provide emergency first aid and accompany students to medical appointments where required
  • Support attendance, punctuality and academic engagement
Health & Safety
  • Undertake daily registers and ensure building security
  • Conduct visual safety and hygiene checks
  • Monitor sign‑in/out systems and follow missing student procedures
  • Conduct room searches in line with policy where required
Communication
  • Maintain effective communication with parents, guardians and agents
  • Oversee prep sessions and liaise with teaching staff
  • Contribute to boarding newsletters and social media promotion
  • Attend weekly boarding meetings
Administration
  • Ensure compliance with National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools
  • Maintain accurate pastoral, medical and disciplinary records
  • Support travel arrangements, inventories and laundry provision
  • Report maintenance issues promptly
Trips & Activities
  • Oversee the organisation of boarding trips and activities
  • Attend and lead trips where required
  • Promote community engagement and charitable initiatives
Senior Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Boarding with complex pastoral or disciplinary matters
  • Act as Deputy DSL where appropriate
  • Contribute to house audits and Boarding Development Planning
  • Attend Boarding Committee meetings
Person Specification Essential
  • A good university degree
  • Experience working with teenagers, ideally in an international context
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong IT and administrative capability
  • A warm, approachable and empathetic manner
  • Flexibility, resilience and commitment to equality and inclusion
Desirable
  • Experience in a boarding or summer school environment
  • First Aid or Mental Health First Aid qualification
  • Knowledge of National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools
  • Experience organising trips and activities
  • Good knowledge of London and its cultural opportunities
