Role Overview
This role plays a crucial part in fostering collaborations between the Faculty of Science & Engineering (S&E) at QMUL and industry partners. The Business Development Manager will facilitate research partnerships, helping to translate academic research into real-world applications.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorking within QMUL's Research Services Directorate, the post-holder will be part of an established Business Development team that collaborates with academic staff to identify and develop funding opportunities, manage relationships with key external partners, and ensure the successful delivery of joint research projects.
Additionally, the post-holder will engage with Professional Services teams such as the Joint Research Management Office and Queen Mary Innovation Ltd.
The role is client-facing and requires on-campus work at the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses, with occasional off-site meetings.
Significant experience in business development, consultancy, or managing industry‑academic partnerships is required, and knowledge of IP, research contracts, and funding schemes that support industry interaction is desirable. You will be confident managing multiple projects, building strong stakeholder relationships, and communicating effectively with diverse audiences.
QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (PhD is desirable) and a solid understanding of research funding and the innovation processes. Your background and experience will enable effective collaboration with researchers and external partners, particularly within the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) sectors.
