About the Role

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic SEN Art Tutor to join a specialist SEND school in Walthamstow on a long-term basis. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about using art to support learners with additional needs and wants to make a real impact. No formal teaching qualification is required - we are more interested in experience working with children and young people and a strong commitment to supporting SEN learners.

The school supports pupils with a diverse range of needs including Autism, SEMH, communication and learning difficulties, offering a tailored and nurturing environment with small class sizes and a curriculum adapted to each learner's abilities and interests.

Role Overview

As an SEN Art Tutor, you will deliver engaging and inclusive art sessions that help pupils express themselves creatively, develop confidence and build essential skills.

You'll work with learners across different age groups and support them to access artistic activities in a way that meets their individual needs and abilities.

You will work closely with class teachers and support staff to create an environment where students feel safe, confident and valued.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver practical, engaging art sessions tailored to the needs of SEN learners.

Use art to promote communication, self-expression, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Adapt activities to suit different abilities, developmental levels and learning styles.

Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure pupils are safe, supported and able to access learning.

Encourage positive behaviour, participation and pride in creative work.

Maintain a structured, calm and nurturing classroom environment.

Essential Requirements

Experience working with children or young people (e.g., schools, youth work, coaching, sports, arts).

A patient, adaptable and compassionate approach.

Strong communication and behaviour support skills.

A genuine passion for supporting learners with additional needs.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable (but not essential)

Experience in a SEND, SEMH, autism or alternative provision setting.

Knowledge of working with neurodiverse learners in creative settings.

Background or interest in art, creative practice or arts facilitation.
