About the Department

The Library Services Department has 65 staff, with libraries and study spaces located at three of Queen Mary University of London’s campuses, responsibility for the university archives, and a strong online presence.

Library Learning Support and Engagement (LLSE) deliver the Academic Skills Centre provision to support the academic literacies development of all students. The team delivers a core programme of resources and training (workshops and individual advice) and works in collaboration with academic schools and institutes to develop and deliver more discipline‑specific guidance.

You have experience working in Higher Education in a student‑facing role, with strong understanding of the challenges students face transitioning through university, especially those from under‑represented backgrounds. You bring excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, including experience with virtual learning environments and digital content. You are confident working independently and collaboratively, able to analyse and evaluate programmes, manage multiple priorities and build effective relationships across teams.

You are proactive, detail‑oriented and committed to improving the student transition experience.

Throughout our history, we have fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it is simply “the right thing to do,” but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers. We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, believing that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time/fixed‑term), a season ticket loan scheme, and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we provide a range of work‑life balance and family‑friendly, inclusive employment policies, campus facilities and flexible working arrangements.

Queen Mary's commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointment processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
