Role Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • To teach the highest quality individual music lessons to pupils
  • To promote musical excellence and enjoyment of music by demonstrating instrumental skills to pupils
  • To ensure the safeguarding of all pupils, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy
  • Teaching & Pupil Progress
    • To ensure progress of all pupils by preparing and teaching lessons appropriately tailored for each student
    • To keep a detailed record of pupil’s progress and achievements
    • To set and communicate specific targets for pupil’s individual practice each week
  • Music Exams
    • To have a clear knowledge and understanding of the requirements and marking criteria for music exams relevant to your instrument(s)
    • Where applicable, to ensure that pupils are well prepared for music exams with either ABRSM, Rock school or Trinity exam boards
  • Communication
    • Use departmental systems of awards and monitoring concerns in order to communicate pupil’s progress and/or concerns with the Head of Music in a timely manner
    • Where applicable, to communicate with parents pupil’s progress and/or concerns
  • Wider Department
    • To direct ensembles and/or music activities when timetables allow and as per the request of the Head of Music
    • To pro-actively engage in initiatives to achieve consistency across the music department (curriculum, ensembles and individual lessons)
    • Whenever possible, to support music events in the music calendar
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Music
  • Proven success in teaching instrumental lessons to various ages and skill levels
  • Professional performance experience
  • Familiarity with different teaching methodologies and techniques
  • Professional standard in their main instrument
  • Ability to teach a wide range of musical genres and styles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Strong organisational abilities to manage schedules, lesson plans, and student progress effectively
  • Capability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs and learning styles of students
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics in all interactions
  • Willingness to collaborate with other members of the department
  • Genuine passion for music education and a desire to inspire a love of music in students
  • Dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students
