Key Responsibilities- To teach the highest quality individual music lessons to pupils
- To promote musical excellence and enjoyment of music by demonstrating instrumental skills to pupils
- To ensure the safeguarding of all pupils, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy
- Teaching & Pupil Progress
- To ensure progress of all pupils by preparing and teaching lessons appropriately tailored for each student
- To keep a detailed record of pupil’s progress and achievements
- To set and communicate specific targets for pupil’s individual practice each week
- Music Exams
- To have a clear knowledge and understanding of the requirements and marking criteria for music exams relevant to your instrument(s)
- Where applicable, to ensure that pupils are well prepared for music exams with either ABRSM, Rock school or Trinity exam boards
- Communication
- Use departmental systems of awards and monitoring concerns in order to communicate pupil’s progress and/or concerns with the Head of Music in a timely manner
- Where applicable, to communicate with parents pupil’s progress and/or concerns
- Wider Department
- To direct ensembles and/or music activities when timetables allow and as per the request of the Head of Music
- To pro-actively engage in initiatives to achieve consistency across the music department (curriculum, ensembles and individual lessons)
- Whenever possible, to support music events in the music calendar
- Bachelor's degree in Music
- Proven success in teaching instrumental lessons to various ages and skill levels
- Professional performance experience
- Familiarity with different teaching methodologies and techniques
- Professional standard in their main instrument
- Ability to teach a wide range of musical genres and styles
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organisational abilities to manage schedules, lesson plans, and student progress effectively
- Capability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs and learning styles of students
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics in all interactions
- Willingness to collaborate with other members of the department
- Genuine passion for music education and a desire to inspire a love of music in students
- Dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students
