Literacy Mentor | Waltham Forest | September 2026 Start

A forward-thinking secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a Literacy Mentor to join its support team from September 2026 until July 2027. This full-time opportunity is ideal for a graduate looking to develop their experience within education while making a measurable impact on students' reading, writing and communication skills across KS3 and KS4.

The school has built a strong reputation for high expectations, excellent pastoral care and a commitment to ensuring every student can access the curriculum successfully. Literacy is a key priority across the school, with intervention programmes designed to support students who require additional guidance with reading comprehension, written communication and vocabulary development. Staff work collaboratively to identify barriers to learning and implement effective strategies that help pupils make sustained academic progress.

Mentor – What the School Offers
  • Full academic year placement from September 2026 until July 2027
  • 33.5 working hours per week, including half-days on Fridays
  • £444‑£513 per week via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay)

The Role

You will deliver targeted literacy interventions to small groups and individual students, support pupils within mainstream English lessons and work closely with teaching staff to raise attainment. The role also includes supporting students with SEND needs and helping them access learning confidently across the curriculum.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds a 2:1 degree or above, ideally within English, Humanities or a related discipline
  • Has previous child-centred experience through tutoring, mentoring or coaching
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Is passionate about education and supporting young people to succeed
