Responsibilities
Teachers plan, deliver and assess lessons; build supportive learning environments; track pupil progress; and contribute to the wider school community.
- Plan, deliver and assess lessons across a specialist subject area
- Build relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues across the school community
- Specialise into subject teaching, pastoral leadership, SEN, or senior leadership
- Work for state primary / secondary schools, academy trusts, independent schools and FE colleges
UK teachers must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to teach in state‑maintained schools — achieved via PGCE, School Direct or Teach First.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Completion of an approved teacher training programme (PGCE, School Direct, Teach First, or similar)
- Good academic record and commitment to professional development
UK teacher pay follows national pay scales for state‑school teachers. Newly Qualified Teachers start at £32,800 nationally (£37,500 in Inner London). Main Scale teachers reach £43,700–£46,000, with upper pay scale and leadership roles bringing pay to £60,000+.
