Student Wellbeing Service Student Counsellor x3

There are three permanent, part‑time vacancies available for this role at 0.5 FTE (one post) and 0.6 FTE (two posts). In your supporting statement, please indicate which of the two FTE types you are applying for.

0.5 FTE posts are worked over three days per week from 1 September to 30 June each year, with July and August non‑working months. Salary is paid at 0.5 FTE across the year and the post carries continuous employment.

0.6 FTE posts are worked over three days per week throughout the year.

Salary from £53,949 to £62,160 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £69,073 pa inclusive of London allowance.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost social science universities in the world, with a global reach and an international student intake.

LSE Student Wellbeing Service is recruiting three Student Counsellors to undertake individual counselling and training with staff and students in our multi-disciplinary service. We are looking for candidates to provide short‑term, solution‑focused individual counselling to students from diverse backgrounds, working with a variety of presenting issues and tailoring interventions to each student’s needs. Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with university policy and collaborate with the broader Student Wellbeing Service team to promote a supportive and inclusive student community.

Candidates must hold BACP Accreditation, UKCP Registration, or equivalent registration with HPC/BABCP/BPS/BPC as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist/Counselling Psychologist. Applicants who do not meet the requirements for professional accreditation/registration will not be considered for this post. Candidates with BACP Membership (as opposed to Accreditation) cannot be considered for this role, including those whose application for accreditation is pending.

Candidates should have experience providing short‑term counselling, ability to work flexibly and be able to demonstrate evidence of appropriate decision making and/or escalation when working with clients.

The post holder must be able to work on a Thursday (on campus), plus two or three additional weekdays (at least one of which needs to be on campus).

This position will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Any offer of employment made is conditional on receipt of a satisfactory DBS check.
