The Role

Temporary position until 2 July 2027.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled hourly paid Teacher of AAQ Engineering (8 hours per week) to join our A Level provision. The candidate will teach AAQ Engineering and inspire students to develop technical knowledge, problem‑solving skills, and an understanding of engineering principles. In addition to teaching, the role includes responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of engineering equipment and machinery, ensuring a safe, well‑organised, and industry‑standard learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high quality learning, teaching and assessment and related resources as agreed with the curriculum management team, using digital technologies to enhance classroom‑based learning and to deliver online learning where applicable.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date course information including Group Profile, Lesson Plans, Schemes of Work, Individual Learning Plans, and Student Progress Tracking.
  • Liaise with employers, parent/carers, schools, and other organisations as necessary to meet students’ learning requirements.
  • Set, mark and return students’ assignments in a timely manner, conforming to awarding bodies’ accreditation and college procedures.
  • Contribute to internal and external moderation procedures.
  • Provide cover for existing college staff members in a similar subject area.
  • Participate in the interview, recruitment, selection, and induction of students, including open days and parents’ evenings, which may occur on evenings and/or weekends according to the college calendar.
  • Provide course advice and guidance to students, including progression and vocational advice where appropriate; manage and support students’ applications to accredited courses, higher education, apprenticeships or careers.
  • Provide individual and small group tutorial support for students, including following up attendance and signposting to student services for further support.
  • Implement the student absence management and disciplinary procedures in a timely manner.
  • Act as a point of liaison for the Additional Learning Support (ALS) team and tutors working with individual students to ensure ALS needs are met and integrated with Individual Learner Plans.
  • Contribute to the faculty’s curriculum and quality review processes by providing subject‑specific expertise and learner feedback.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including the design and authoring of curriculum materials and procurement of up‑to‑date digital and physical resources to support learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Take an active role in quality enhancement, ensuring implementation of the quality assurance activities required by the college’s Quality Framework, including raising standards and improving student attendance, retention and achievement.
  • Contribute to the management of quality improvement within the curriculum area, including attendance and punctuality monitoring, tracking of student progress and final destination, in accordance with the college’s Learning, Teaching and Assessment Policy.
  • Contribute to the college’s self‑assessment process and participate in the curriculum review process, supporting the Curriculum Manager and/or Head of Faculty in implementing quality enhancement and business development plans.
  • Contribute to staff development within the curriculum area and assist the Curriculum Manager and other lecturers with staff inductions.
