The Institute is renowned as one of the world's leading centres of expertise for research and teaching in the fields of Museum Studies, Conservation, Cultural Heritage Studies, and Public Archaeology.
Staff and students working in these areas comprise the Institute’s Heritage Studies section. This is a strongly interdisciplinary area of study, and the section brings together scholars from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, including anthropology, archaeology, conservation, curatorship, heritage management, museum education, and material culture studies.
This MA provides a broad academic and professional training in museum work and encourages students to reflect on the concept of the museum and its associated practices. Grounded in museum practice, critical theory and research, the programme looks at all types of museums.
ResponsibilitiesTeach core modules on the MA Museum Studies, develop new optional modules, support dissertation supervision, and work with the teaching team to develop teaching and learning opportunities in museum studies at both postgraduate and undergraduate level. This full‑time 1.0
FTE post (36.5 hours per week) includes all course preparation, teaching, support, marking and associated duties.
PhD in Museum Studies, Heritage Studies or Archaeology/Cultural Studies (with a demonstrable interest in museums and heritage). Experience in designing, coordinating and delivering teaching and assessments at postgraduate level in fields relevant to the role and experience of professional work in a museum or related institution.
