Genomics Education and Training Coordinator

As part of our ongoing development, we are seeking an enthusiastic Genomics Education and Training Coordinator to join the Clinical Genomics department. The Clinical Genomics laboratory at The Royal Marsden is part of the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub (NT GLH), a key player in cancer genomic testing in England. Based at the Centre for Molecular Pathology in Sutton, a state-of-the-art facility integrating translational science with molecular diagnostics, this role is critical in supporting the education and training needs of our staff.

The Genomics Education and Training Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Operational Managers and the Scientist Training Lead to organise, deliver and maintain educational and training provisions for all roles within the clinical genomics department. This will include developing and managing scientific training programmes and resources, including engagement with internal and external training providers. Furthermore, the Genomics Education and Training Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring staff training documentation is completed and appropriately recorded and regularly reviewed in accordance with ISO
15189 standards.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor education, training and engagement programmes.
  • Organise and schedule training seminars on key genomic medicine topics including Cancer, Haematological Malignancy and Rare Disease.
  • Ensure the departmental training policy is regularly reviewed.

The Genomics Education and Training Coordinator will work closely with the Operational Managers and Scientist Training Lead to develop, deliver, and maintain educational programs for staff across the department. The successful candidate will manage training documentation, coordinate seminars on genomic medicine topics, and ensure training meets accreditation standards such as ISO 15189.

This is a key role for someone who is passionate about training and education in genomics, with a focus on maintaining high standards and supporting career development across the team. You will play a vital part in ensuring staff have the skills and resources they need to excel in a cutting‑edge clinical genomics environment.

The successful applicant will have a BSc in Biological Sciences/Genetics, with experience in training delivery within a diagnostic laboratory setting. Knowledge of genomic medicine and its role in patient care is essential, alongside excellent organisational and communication skills.

Person Specification Qualifications/Education
  • BSc degree in Biological Sciences/Genetics
  • Post graduate qualification in education or training, or equivalent experience
  • Post graduate qualification in relevant scientific subject
Knowledge and skills
  • Detailed knowledge of training delivery in a diagnostic laboratory; knowledge of education and training theory and practice
  • Understands the principles for genomics and the role it plays in patient pathways.
  • Experience of training others and supervising trainees
  • Knowledge of the different routes to HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist and Biomedical Scientist
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures, with emphasis on training and education, or experience in project management
  • Experience of working in a clinical genomics laboratory or delivering training in a relevant field
