General Teaching Assistant – Lower‑Attaining Learners – Watford, Hertfordshire – Start 1 September 2026 –

Contract:

Full Time, Temporary – Salary £100–£101.10 per day

Teach Now is recruiting a dedicated General Teaching Assistant to support lower‑attaining learners at a thriving, inclusive secondary school and sixth form.

Responsibilities
  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assist lower‑attaining learners during lessons
  • Deliver targeted literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence and independence
  • Support positive behaviour and classroom routines
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Work closely with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work or support setting
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Patient, positive and resilient approach
  • Ability to motivate students who may lack confidence in their learning
  • Commitment to inclusion and raising achievement for all learners
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH or learning difficulties
  • Knowledge of intervention programmes and strategies for lower‑attaining learners
