Role OverviewSuccessful applicants will play a key role within a vibrant team, delivering high quality customer-focused services. This includes handling a wide range of library enquiries, signposting residents and customers to relevant council departments and external organisations, and designing and delivering engaging events and activities for children and adults. The role also involves working proactively in the community through outreach initiatives, promoting the full range of library services, and maintaining and enhancing an excellent and inclusive library offer across both physical and digital collections.
Responsibilities• Handle a wide range of library enquiries and signpost residents and customers to relevant council departments and external organisations
• Design and deliver engaging events and activities for children and adults, including class visits, children’s sessions and programmes for adults and families
• Work proactively in the community through outreach initiatives, promoting the full range of library services and extending the reach of the library to new audiences
• Maintain, enhance and promote an excellent and inclusive library offer, spanning both physical and digital collections, including community-led stock
• Deliver a varied programme of events and activities for all age groups, support services such as housebound provision, and ensure all customers are aware of and able to access the breadth of services available
• Engage library users of all ages and be active and visible on the library floor at all times, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment
Qualifications and Experience• Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working in the library sector
• Confidence in promoting library services and delivering excellent customer service to a diverse range of users
• Experience in customer service desirable; confidence in using ICT
• Passion for books and reading essential; inspiration of a love of reading central to the mission
• Enthusiasm and experience in working with children and families encouraged
• Ability to design, lead and deliver engaging events and activities that are inclusive, creative and responsive to community needs
