- Graduate This Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant role will give you experience working at a special school in Haywards Heath catering for with pupils aged between 5 and 11 years with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autisitic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), including those with Asperger's Syndrome and those with a diagnosis of ADHD. A common feature for many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalisation and disadvantage, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment and stigmatisation.
Subsequently they face many barriers in life and are more 'at risk' of negative outcomes. With this Aspiring Child Counsellor/LSA role in Haywards Heath, you will be instrumental in providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life. This is a challenging Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant role and any previous experience in a relevant field would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Training, support and CPD is required in order for you to perform your duties and to ensure safeguarding of all students. Ideal for a Criminology, Psychology, or Sociology graduates, this role will give you excellent practical experience with SEN students in a relevant field, before you take your next step. Job role and responsibilities for Aspiring Child Counsellor/Learning Support Assistant:
Assist the class teacher with the learning experience Provide dedicated support to pupils with learning, physical, sensory, or behavioural challenges Ability to build trusted and effective relationships with the pupils Willing to do 1:1 and small group support and work with pupils Follow the safeguarding guidelines and implement them in the classroom Have good communication and interpersonal skills Be a good listener with a compassionate and caring approach Needs to attend staff meetings and complete relevant CPD Able to commute to Haywards Heath Start date September, trial days taking place to ensure the role and school is right for you Excellent on-site training, support and CPD is provided £93-£105 per day, Mon-Fri, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, term time only No previous experience is required GCSE in English and Maths If you have a Psychology / Criminology / Social Science degree, it's an excellent use of your degree You MUST have right to work in the UK in order to apply - no Visa sponsorship Apply now or contact Maddy Thatcher at Academics Ltd:
