About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and reliable One-to-One Mentor to support young people across the Lewisham area. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals who may be facing social, emotional, behavioural, or educational challenges, helping them build confidence, resilience, and positive life skills.

This rewarding role involves providing tailored support, guidance, and encouragement to help young people achieve their personal, educational, and developmental goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Provide one-to-one mentoring and emotional support.
  • Support individuals in developing confidence, self‑esteem, and independence.
  • Assist with goal setting, motivation, and personal development planning.
  • Encourage engagement in education, training, employment, or community activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and decision‑making.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, schools, and other professionals where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of mentoring sessions.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience working with young people in a mentoring, youth work, education, support work, or similar role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable or disengaged young people.
  • Patient, empathetic, and non‑judgemental approach.
  • Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualification in Youth Work, Education, Social Care, Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting young people with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices.
  • Experience working within schools, alternative provision settings, or community projects.
