Sports Graduate – Teaching Assistant | Newham | September 2026 Start

Are you a Sports Graduate looking to use your coaching experience to make a lasting impact in a secondary school? A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Newham is seeking a Sports Graduate – Teaching Assistant to join from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis until July 2027
, with the potential to extend beyond the academic year.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in teaching, youth work, educational psychology or pastoral support. Your experience in sport, coaching or leadership will be invaluable in helping students develop resilience, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning. Working across KS3 and KS4, you will support students both inside and outside the classroom, particularly those who benefit from additional behavioural or pastoral guidance.

  • £444–£513 per week via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay)

The Role
  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 who require additional behavioural or academic support
  • Using coaching skills to motivate pupils, encourage resilience and promote positive behaviour

    Delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions focused on engagement and personal development
  • Assisting teachers with classroom routines and behaviour management
  • Building positive relationships that help students improve confidence, attendance and attainment
The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds a 2:1 degree or above from a leading UK university
  • Has coaching, mentoring or other child-centred experience working with young people
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is resilient, proactive and passionate about making a difference in education
