Youth Development Specialist (South London)
Location:
South London (Lambeth and surrounding boroughs)
Contract Type:
Flexible / Sessional / Part-Time
Salary: £25-£40p/h
About the Role:
We are seeking passionate and committed Youth Mentors to support young people facing a range of social, emotional, behavioural and educational challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people through consistent, positive and trauma‑informed mentoring relationships.
You will work on a one-to-one basis, helping young people to build confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, engagement with education, and aspirations for the future.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality mentoring sessions tailored to individual needs.
- Build positive, professional relationships with young people and their families.
- Support young people to identify goals and overcome barriers.
- Work collaboratively with schools, local authorities and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate session records and reports.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
- Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing and personal development.
- Encourage engagement in education, training and employment opportunities.
- Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience working with children and young people.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice, restorative approaches or youth work methodologies.
- Experience working with young people at risk of exclusion, exploitation, offending, poor attendance or disengagement from education.
- Youth work, mentoring, teaching, coaching, social care or related qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Resilient and emotionally intelligent.
- Comfortable adapting to changing circumstances.
- Organised and able to manage multiple young people and priorities.
- Confident engaging with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Professional, reliable and accountable.
- Patient, empathetic and non‑judgemental.
- Proactive problem‑solvers who can think creatively.
- Calm under pressure and able to maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
