A welcoming and inclusiveSENschool in Romford is looking to appoint a dedicated1:1 Autism Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis starting immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with a pupil, helping them thrive both academically and socially within a supportive school environment.

About the Role

In this role, you will provide consistent 1:1 support for a child with autism, helping them access learning, manage routines, and feel confident in the classroom. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team to deliver tailored strategies that meet the child’s individual needs.

Building a strong, trusting relationship will be key, as you support the pupil in developing communication skills, emotional regulation, and independence.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Providingdedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism
  • Supporting the child’slearning, communication, and social development
  • Helping manageroutines, transitions, and classroom expectations
  • Implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
  • Encouragingconfidence, independence, and engagement
  • Working closely with theclass teacher, SENCO, and support staff
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience supporting children with autism or SEN
  • Acalm, patient, and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

    Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Understanding of behaviour and emotional support strategies
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service(or willingness to apply)
