MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- To ensure all school safeguarding procedures are rigorously adhered to, promoting the welfare of all students, at all times.
- To plan and deliver high‑quality Physical Education lessons across Key Stages 3 to 5, enabling all students to achieve their full potential and make strong progress.
- To act as an enthusiastic and proactive advocate for Physical Education, recognising its importance in supporting students’ health, wellbeing, and personal development.
- To develop and maintain strong, collaborative professional relationships within the PE department and contribute positively to the wider school community.
- Promote the value of Physical Education across the school, raising the profile of the subject and encouraging student participation.
- Maintain consistently high professional standards in attendance, punctuality, presentation, and conduct.
- Contribute to the implementation of curriculum developments, including embedding the 2028 Educational Reforms within PE provision.
- Contribute to the design, development, and review of schemes of work to ensure a broad, balanced, and ambitious diverse curriculum that is inclusive and forward thinking.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional development, setting personal targets and engaging with relevant training opportunities.
- Undertake any additional duties reasonably directed by the Head of Department or Headteacher.
- Deliver high‑quality PE lessons across Key Stages 3–5 that are ambitious, inclusive, and promote strong progress for all students.
- Set high expectations and use effective teaching strategies to engage, challenge, and motivate learners.
- Adapt teaching to meet the needs of all students, including SEND and disadvantaged pupils.
- Use assessment accurately to monitor progress and inform responsive teaching.
- Provide clear, timely feedback that supports improvement and outcomes.
- Promote a positive learning environment that supports behaviour, participation, and personal development.
- Contribute to curriculum planning to ensure a broad, balanced, and sequenced PE provision.
- Actively promote high levels of participation, engagement, and enjoyment in Physical Education, making a significant contribution to the school’s physical and sporting enrichment provision.
- Promote a broad and inclusive range of sporting activities, ensuring high levels of student participation and engagement across all groups of learners.
- Identify and target specific students for intervention, effectively monitoring attendance, participation, and impact to support improved engagement and outcomes.
- Contribute to a well‑planned programme of inter‑ and intra‑school competition, including the regular delivery of after‑school fixtures (on average two per week), ensuring opportunities for all students to participate and succeed.
- Support the development of a high‑quality enrichment programme with a particular focus on football, cricket, and tennis, providing both participation and performance pathways.
- Plan, organise, and lead inclusive intra‑school competitions such as termly inter‑house events, ensuring opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and personal development across all key stages.
- Coach and officiate in a range of competitive fixtures, including leagues, cup competitions, friendlies, and knockout formats, promoting sportsmanship, resilience, and respect.
- Contribute to the wider personal development of students through sport, fostering leadership, confidence, and positive attitudes towards health and physical activity.
- Actively promote the PE department within the school and wider community to increase participation and raise the profile of the subject.
- Lead on the development of a half‑termly PE and Sports newsletter to celebrate participation and success.
