At First Bridge School, we are hiring for a qualified primary teacher (QTS). This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the earliest and most critical stage of learning for children with autism in a school designed specifically for them.

About First Bridge School

First Bridge School is a DfE-registered specialist SEND school for pupils aged 2 to 11 with autism and complex developmental needs, located in Chelsea, London.

Our Early Years provision is where many of our pupils begin their journey with us. You will be working with children at the start of their educational experience, in an environment built from the ground up to meet the needs of young autistic learners.

This is not a mainstream setting. Teachers work daily alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Behaviour Specialists within a fully integrated therapeutic model.

You’ll deliver structured, personalised learning in an environment designed specifically for autism and complex needs education.

The Role

You will lead a small class of pupils with autism and additional needs, supported by trained Teaching Assistants and a multidisciplinary team.

Your focus
  • Deliver high-quality SEND teaching aligned to EHCP outcomes
  • Support pupils with communication, behaviour, and sensory needs
  • Build a structured, predictable, and safe learning environment
  • Drive measurable progress in early learning and development
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver individualised SEND lessons tailored to EHCP targets
  • Use autism-specific teaching strategies (e.g. structured routines, visual supports, communication systems)
  • Differentiate learning for pupils with ASC, speech & language needs, and developmental delays
  • Work collaboratively with SALT, OT, and behaviour teams to ensure consistent approaches
  • Monitor progress using continuous assessment and observation
  • Maintain strong communication with parents, carers, and professionals
  • Uphold safeguarding and SEND best practice at all times
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) + ECT induction completed
  • Experience teaching at KS1/KS2 level
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs, differentiation, and personalised learning
  • Ability to support pupils with autism, communication needs, and behaviour challenges
  • Confident classroom management using structured and consistent approaches
  • Strong assessment and progress-tracking capability
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in SEN / SEND / autism settings or with diverse learning needs
  • Knowledge of autism strategies (e.g. TEACCH, PECS, ABA-informed approaches)
  • Experience working alongside SALT, OT, or clinical teams
  • Experience with pre-verbal pupils or complex communication needs
What You Get
  • Manageable workload with realistic expectations for planning and admin
  • Daily collaboration with therapists (SALT, OT, Behaviour Specialists)
  • Strong staff support model (no isolated teaching)
  • Funded professional development in SEND, autism, and specialist education
  • Clear career progression pathways
  • 34 days' holiday
  • Laptop for work and home use
Who This Role Is For
  • Teachers who want to specialise in autism and SEND education
  • Educators who prefer structured, purposeful teaching environments
  • Professionals who value team-based, multidisciplinary working
  • Teachers motivated by long-term pupil development, not short-term attainment metrics
Who This Role Is NOT For
  • Teachers seeking a mainstream classroom environment
  • Those uncomfortable supporting pupils with complex needs or behaviour differences
  • Teachers who prefer unstructured or flexible teaching approaches
Safeguarding
