Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Harrow

Full Time

Reeson Education is working with a well-respected and inclusive primary school in North West London that is seeking a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from Autumn 2026.

This role is ideal for a proactive and capable HLTA who is confident leading whole-class learning, managing behaviour effectively, and providing high-quality classroom cover. You will play a key role in maintaining consistency and structure across the school, ensuring pupils remain engaged and supported in the absence of the class teacher.

Key Responsibilities of an HLTA
  • Provide whole-class cover
    , delivering pre-planned lessons and maintaining continuity of learning in the teacher's absence
  • Take full responsibility for classroom management
    , ensuring a calm, structured, and purposeful learning environment
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies
    , in line with the school's policies, to support positive pupil conduct
  • Lead and manage learning activities and interventions
    , including working with pupils with SEN and additional needs
  • Adapt lessons in real-time to ensure all pupils remain engaged and supported
  • Work closely with teaching staff to prepare resources, follow planning, and provide feedback on pupil progress
  • Support the wider school ethos around inclusion, equity, and high expectations for all learners
The Ideal HLTA Candidate
  • Holds HLTA status or has substantial experience leading classes within a primary school setting
  • Confident managing a classroom independently, including handling challenging behaviour
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and the ability to apply them consistently
  • Calm, authoritative presence with excellent communication skills
  • Experience supporting primary-aged pupils
    , including those with SEN
  • Highly organised, adaptable, and able to think on their feet
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of learning and behaviour
